Product Overview
Bluwat Cationic PolyDADMAC Flocculant is a liquid Poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) polymer, also known as PolyDADMAC, PDADMAC, Polydadmac or PolyDMDAAC. It is a water soluble cationic polymer with high charge density and is widely used in paper making, water treatment, wastewater treatment and sludge dewatering systems.
In paper mills, water recycling is an important part of reducing fresh water consumption and improving production efficiency. However, as white water is reused many times, fines, fillers, dissolved anionic substances, colloidal particles, starch residues and other process chemicals may accumulate in the water loop. This can cause high turbidity, unstable wet end chemistry, poor retention, slow drainage, deposits and higher wastewater treatment load.
PolyDADMAC helps control these problems through strong cationic charge neutralization. It can neutralize negatively charged impurities in pulp slurry and white water, improve the fixation of fines and fillers onto fibers, and help form removable flocs in paper mill water recycling systems.
This product is suitable for paper mills that need better retention performance, cleaner white water, improved drainage, stable water recycling and efficient sludge separation.

Why Paper Mill Water Recycling Needs PolyDADMAC
Paper mill circulating water contains fibers, fines, fillers and many dissolved or colloidal substances. When the water loop becomes more closed, these substances can accumulate and disturb the wet end system.
Common problems include:
- High white water turbidity
- Poor fines and filler retention
- More solids loss from the wire section
- Slow drainage and unstable paper machine operation
- Higher load on save-all and wastewater treatment systems
- Anionic trash interfering with retention aids and sizing agents
- More sludge generation and dewatering pressure
PolyDADMAC provides strong positive charge. It helps neutralize negatively charged particles and dissolved anionic materials, making the system easier to control. This supports cleaner recycled water and more stable paper production.
Main Functions
1. White Water Clarification
PolyDADMAC helps destabilize fine suspended particles and colloidal impurities in paper mill white water. After coagulation and flocculation, these particles become easier to separate through save-all systems, sedimentation, flotation or filtration.
2. Water Recycling Support
Cleaner circulating water helps reduce the accumulation of suspended solids and colloidal contaminants. This supports better water reuse and can reduce the pressure on fresh water intake and wastewater discharge systems.
3. Retention Aid Support
In the wet end, PolyDADMAC helps neutralize anionic trash and improve the fixation of fines and fillers onto fibers. This supports better retention performance and reduces valuable fiber and filler loss.
4. Drainage Improvement
Better retention and charge balance can improve water removal on the forming section. This supports more stable drainage and paper machine runnability.
5. Sludge Dewatering Support
PolyDADMAC can also support sludge conditioning in paper mill wastewater treatment, helping improve solid liquid separation and sludge dewatering performance.

Recommended Use in Paper Mill Water Recycling
The best dosage and dosing point should be confirmed by laboratory testing and mill trial because water recycling systems vary by paper grade, furnish type, recycled fiber ratio, filler content, pH, conductivity and white water contamination level.
A common testing process may include:
- Collect representative white water or process water sample
- Check turbidity, suspended solids, pH and conductivity
- Dilute PolyDADMAC before dosing
- Add PolyDADMAC and mix evenly for charge neutralization
- Add PAC or PAM if stronger flocculation is required
- Allow sedimentation, flotation or filtration
- Compare treated water clarity, floc size and sludge condition
- Adjust dosage according to water reuse target and cost
Recommended Use as Retention Aid Support
For paper wet end retention, PolyDADMAC should be tested according to the actual paper machine system. It can help improve charge balance before the main retention aid program.
A typical wet end evaluation may include:
- Test pulp slurry charge condition and white water turbidity
- Select a suitable PolyDADMAC grade
- Dose PolyDADMAC at a controlled point with good mixing
- Evaluate fines retention, filler retention and drainage
- Combine with PAM or microparticle retention system if needed
- Monitor paper machine runnability and product quality
- Avoid overdosing to prevent charge reversal or chemical imbalance
Suggested Dosing Points
PolyDADMAC can be tested in different paper mill positions, such as:
- Machine chest / Blend chest
- Fan pump inlet / Short circulation system
- Before main retention aid dosing
- White water loop / Save-all inlet / DAF inlet
- Sludge conditioning tank
The suitable dosing point should be selected according to mixing condition, reaction time, water quality and treatment objective.
Use with PAC and PAM
PolyDADMAC can be used alone or in combination with inorganic coagulants and flocculants.
- PolyDADMAC helps neutralize charge and destabilize fine particles.
- PAC supports coagulation and suspended solids removal in water treatment.
- PAM helps form larger flocs for faster separation and sludge dewatering.
In paper mill water recycling, the combined use of PolyDADMAC, PAC and PAM can help improve clarification, reduce white water turbidity and support better solid liquid separation.
Dilution and Dosage
When PolyDADMAC is used alone for water treatment, it is recommended to dilute it to 0.5–5% concentration based on solid content before dosing.
For paper mill retention and water recycling applications, the dosage should be determined by jar test, charge demand test, retention test, drainage test and machine trial.
Overdosing should be avoided because excessive cationic charge may disturb wet end balance, affect other additives or cause deposit problems. The most economical dosage should be selected according to treatment performance and operating cost.
