Product Overview
PolyDADMAC, also known as PDADMAC or Poly(dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride), is a liquid cationic polymer with strong charge neutralization and flocculation performance. It is widely used in wastewater treatment, sludge dewatering, oil industry, mining, paper-making, and industrial clarification applications.
In refinery wastewater treatment, oily sludge is commonly generated from API separators, dissolved air flotation systems, oil-water separation units, biological treatment, tank bottom cleaning, and chemical precipitation processes. This sludge often contains oil droplets, suspended solids, colloids, organic matter, inorganic particles, and emulsified pollutants. Because of its complex composition and high water content, refinery oily sludge can be difficult to thicken, dewater, and dispose of.
Bluwat High MW PolyDADMAC provides strong cationic charge and high molecular weight flocculation support. It helps neutralize negatively charged sludge particles, break colloidal stability, promote larger floc formation, and improve water release during centrifuge, filter press, belt press, or sludge thickening operations.

Application in Refinery Oily Sludge Dewatering
Refineries and petrochemical plants require stable sludge conditioning chemicals to reduce sludge volume, improve dewatering efficiency, and lower disposal pressure. High MW PolyDADMAC can be used as a primary conditioner or as part of a combined treatment program with PAM, PAC, demulsifier, or other refinery wastewater chemicals.
Typical applications include:
Key Benefits
High Molecular Weight for Stronger Floc Formation
High MW PolyDADMAC grades help form stronger and more stable sludge flocs, which is important for refinery oily sludge that contains fine solids, emulsified oil, and difficult-to-separate particles.
Strong Cationic Charge Neutralization
PolyDADMAC neutralizes negatively charged colloids, sludge particles, and suspended solids. This helps destabilize oily sludge and improves the separation of water from the sludge structure.
Improved Oily Sludge Dewatering
By strengthening sludge flocs and improving water release, PolyDADMAC supports better performance in centrifuge, filter press, belt press, screw press, and gravity thickening systems.
Reduced Fine Solids Carryover
Proper conditioning helps reduce fine suspended solids in filtrate or centrate, lowering the return load to the refinery wastewater treatment system.
Supports Sludge Volume Reduction
Improved solid-liquid separation can help reduce the water content and total handling volume of refinery sludge, supporting easier storage, transport, and disposal.
Easy Liquid Dosing
Liquid PolyDADMAC is easy to dilute, pump, and dose continuously, making it suitable for automated dosing systems in refinery wastewater treatment plants.
Flexible Grade Selection
Bluwat provides different solid content, viscosity, and molecular weight grades, allowing customers to select suitable products for oily sludge thickening, conditioning, and mechanical dewatering.
Can Be Used with PAM or Coagulants
For difficult refinery sludge, PolyDADMAC can be used before PAM to provide charge neutralization, while PAM helps enlarge flocs through polymer bridging. It can also be used with inorganic coagulants depending on sludge characteristics.
Working Principle
High MW PolyDADMAC improves refinery oily sludge dewatering mainly through charge neutralization, adsorption, and floc formation.

Application Method & Guidance
For refinery oily sludge dewatering, High MW PolyDADMAC should be selected according to sludge source, oil content, suspended solids concentration, emulsion stability, pH value, dewatering equipment, and filtrate or centrate clarity target.
When used alone, PolyDADMAC is normally diluted to 0.5–5% concentration based on solid content before dosing. The optimum dosage should be confirmed by jar testing and on-site dewatering trials. The dosing point and mixing intensity should be carefully controlled.
Product Selection Guidance
Use with PAM in Refinery Sludge Dewatering
PolyDADMAC and PAM can be used together for difficult oily sludge. PolyDADMAC provides charge neutralization and sludge destabilization, while PAM provides polymer bridging and floc enlargement. A common approach is to dose PolyDADMAC first, then dose PAM.
