Product Overview
Bluwat PolyDADMAC Cationic Flocculant is a liquid Poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) polymer, also known as PDADMAC, Polydadmac, PolyDMDAAC or PDMDAAC. It is a water soluble cationic polymer with high charge density and is widely used in water treatment, wastewater treatment, mining, paper making and sludge dewatering applications.
In mining operations, process water and tailings water often contain fine mineral particles, clay, suspended solids, colloidal impurities and residual process chemicals. These fine particles may remain stable in water and settle very slowly, causing high turbidity, poor water recycling, larger settling pond load and unstable thickener performance.
PolyDADMAC helps improve this process through cationic charge neutralization. It can neutralize negatively charged fine particles and colloids, allowing them to aggregate into larger flocs. When used alone or together with PAM flocculant, it can support faster solid liquid separation, clearer overflow water and better tailings water management.
This product is suitable for mining process water treatment, tailings clarification, thickener feed conditioning, recycled water treatment and sludge dewatering support.

Application in Mining Process Water
Mining process water is often recycled many times. During crushing, grinding, washing, flotation, leaching, classification and tailings handling, water can accumulate fine solids and colloidal particles. If these particles are not controlled, the water becomes turbid and may affect production stability.
PolyDADMAC can be used to help clarify process water and reduce fine suspended particles before water is reused. It supports better water quality in the recycling loop and can reduce the load on clarifiers, thickeners, settling ponds and filtration systems.
It is suitable for:
- Mining process water clarification
- Tailings wastewater treatment
- Fine suspended solids removal
- Clay and colloidal particle destabilization
- Thickener overflow clarification
- Settling pond water treatment
- Recycled water quality improvement
- Sludge thickening and dewatering support
- Coal washing water treatment
- Gold, copper, diamond and mineral processing water treatment
Why Mining Tailings Need PolyDADMAC
Tailings water often contains very fine mineral particles that settle slowly. Many of these particles have negative surface charges, which keep them dispersed in water. This can lead to cloudy overflow, slow settling and large settling area requirements.
PolyDADMAC provides strong positive charge. After dosing, it neutralizes the negative charge on fine particles and reduces their stability. The particles can then gather together and form larger flocs.
When combined with a suitable PAM flocculant, PolyDADMAC can help improve floc strength, settling performance and overflow clarity. The exact product combination should be confirmed by jar test because ore type, particle size, pH, salinity and process chemistry can vary greatly between mines.
Main Functions
Charge Neutralization
PolyDADMAC helps neutralize negatively charged fine particles, clay and colloidal impurities in mining water. This is useful when suspended solids remain stable and are difficult to settle.
Tailings Clarification
By improving particle aggregation, PolyDADMAC supports clearer supernatant water from tailings slurry, settling ponds, clarifiers or thickeners.
Process Water Recycling
Clearer process water can be returned to the production system more easily, helping mining plants reduce fresh water demand and improve water loop stability.
Thickener and Settling Support
PolyDADMAC can be used as a coagulant aid before PAM flocculant to improve particle destabilization and support better solid liquid separation.
Sludge Dewatering Support
As a cationic polymer, PolyDADMAC can also support sludge conditioning and dewatering in mining wastewater systems.

Recommended Treatment Process
The best treatment process should be confirmed by jar test because mining water quality varies by ore type, particle size distribution, pH, hardness, salinity, reagent residues and suspended solids concentration.
A typical testing process may include:
- Collect representative mining process water or tailings slurry sample
- Test pH, turbidity, suspended solids and settling behavior
- Dilute PolyDADMAC to the working concentration
- Add PolyDADMAC and mix rapidly for charge neutralization
- Add PAM flocculant if larger and stronger flocs are required
- Allow settling, thickening, flotation or filtration
- Compare overflow clarity, settling speed and sludge volume
- Adjust dosage and chemical sequence according to test results
Use with PAM and PAC
PolyDADMAC can be used alone, but in many mining water systems it is used together with PAM or PAC.
PolyDADMAC helps neutralize negative charges and destabilize fine particles.
PAM helps form larger flocs and improves settling, thickening and dewatering.
PAC can support coagulation in some process water or wastewater treatment systems.
The best combination depends on mineral type, water chemistry and treatment target. Laboratory testing is recommended before full scale operation.
Dilution and Dosage
When used alone for water treatment, PolyDADMAC is recommended to be diluted to 0.5–5% concentration based on solid content before dosing.
The actual dosage depends on suspended solids concentration, turbidity, particle charge, pH, water chemistry and desired overflow clarity. Jar test or on-site trial is recommended to determine the most economical dosage.
The dosing point and mixing speed should be controlled carefully. Good initial mixing helps PolyDADMAC contact fine particles. After flocs are formed, excessive mixing should be avoided to prevent floc breakage.
