Product Overview
Bluwat BLU DA Series PolyDADMAC is a liquid cationic coagulant based on Poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride), also known as PolyDADMAC or PDADMAC. It is designed for water treatment, wastewater treatment, textile applications, color removal, sludge dewatering and industrial effluent clarification.
Dyeing wastewater usually contains strong color, residual dyes, auxiliaries, surfactants, fine suspended solids and colloidal organic matter. These pollutants may remain stable in water and can cause high color, high turbidity and part of the COD load. In many dyeing wastewater treatment plants, biological treatment alone may not remove color effectively, while unstable coagulation may lead to poor clarification and excessive chemical consumption.
PolyDADMAC works as an organic cationic coagulant. Its high positive charge density helps neutralize negatively charged dye molecules, colloidal particles and organic impurities. After charge neutralization, these contaminants can aggregate into larger flocs and become easier to separate through sedimentation, dissolved air flotation or filtration.
For dyeing wastewater treatment, PolyDADMAC can be used alone or together with Polyaluminium Chloride and Polyacrylamide. It is suitable for chemical pretreatment before biological treatment, color removal before discharge and effluent clarification before reuse.

Why PolyDADMAC Is Used for Dyeing Wastewater
Dyeing wastewater can be difficult to treat because color bodies and fine organic particles often remain dispersed in water. Many dyes and colloidal impurities carry negative charges. Without enough charge neutralization, the particles do not combine into strong flocs, and the treated water may still look dark or cloudy.
PolyDADMAC provides strong cationic charge neutralization. It helps destabilize dye particles and colloidal organics, allowing them to form larger flocs. This improves color removal, turbidity reduction and solid liquid separation.
In a dyeing wastewater treatment system, PolyDADMAC is especially useful when:
Wastewater color is strong and difficult to remove
Flocs are small, loose or slow settling
Effluent remains cloudy after PAC treatment
COD contains removable colloidal or suspended organic matter
The treatment plant needs more stable pretreatment before biological treatment
The system requires better clarification before discharge or reuse
How PolyDADMAC Supports COD Reduction
COD in dyeing wastewater may come from dissolved organics, dye residues, auxiliaries, surfactants, suspended solids and colloidal organic matter. PolyDADMAC mainly helps reduce the part of COD that is related to color bodies, suspended impurities and coagulated colloidal organics.
By neutralizing charges and improving floc formation, PolyDADMAC helps remove these pollutants from water through sedimentation, flotation or filtration. This can support COD reduction in the chemical treatment stage and reduce the load entering the biological system.
For highly soluble organic COD, biological treatment or advanced oxidation may still be required. Therefore, PolyDADMAC should be selected and dosed based on jar testing and actual wastewater analysis.

Recommended Treatment Process
The final dosing process should be confirmed by laboratory jar test because dyeing wastewater varies by dye type, fabric type, production process, pH, salinity, COD and color concentration.
A typical chemical treatment process may include:
- Collect representative dyeing wastewater sample from the equalization tank
- Test pH, color, turbidity, COD and suspended solids
- Dilute PolyDADMAC to the recommended working concentration
- Add PolyDADMAC and mix rapidly for charge neutralization
- Add PAC if stronger coagulation and further color removal are required
- Adjust pH to the suitable range according to jar test results
- Add diluted PAM solution to enlarge and strengthen flocs
- Separate flocs by sedimentation, DAF or filtration
- Check treated water color, COD, turbidity and sludge condition
For continuous operation, the dosing point, mixing intensity and chemical sequence should be optimized to prevent poor dispersion or floc breakage.
Use with PAC and PAM
PolyDADMAC can be used alone or in combination with inorganic coagulants such as Polyaluminium Chloride. For dyeing wastewater with high color and COD, a combined treatment program often gives better overall performance.
PolyDADMAC helps neutralize negative charges and destabilize dye particles.
PAC improves coagulation, color reduction and suspended solids removal.
PAM helps create larger flocs for faster settling, flotation and sludge separation.
This combination can improve color removal, reduce cloudy effluent and support COD reduction where COD is associated with removable suspended or colloidal pollutants.
Dilution and Dosage
When PolyDADMAC is used alone, it is recommended to dilute it to 0.5–5% concentration based on solid content before dosing.
The actual dosage depends on wastewater color, COD, turbidity, dye type, pH, suspended solids and discharge target. Jar test is recommended to find the most economical dosage and best chemical sequence.
The chemical should be mixed evenly with wastewater during the charge neutralization stage. After flocs are formed, excessive mixing should be avoided because strong shear may break the flocs and reduce settling performance.
