High Charge Density Cationic Polymer for Wastewater Clarification and Sludge Conditioning

BLUWAT PolyDMDAAC, also known as PolyDADMAC or PDADMAC, is a high charge density cationic polymer used for effluent treatment, sludge dewatering, turbidity reduction and solid-liquid separation.

It is especially suitable for wastewater systems containing suspended solids, colloids, organic impurities, color-causing substances and difficult-to-settle particles. With strong cationic charge neutralization ability, PolyDMDAAC helps destabilize negatively charged contaminants and supports the formation of larger, stronger flocs.

BLUWAT BLU DA Series is supplied as a liquid PolyDADMAC grade with 20% to 50% solid content. It is easy to dilute, pump and dose, making it suitable for continuous operation in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.

    Product Overview

PolyDMDAAC / PolyDADMAC is a water-soluble cationic polymer coagulant. It works mainly through charge neutralization and can be used alone or together with inorganic coagulants such as Polyaluminium Chloride.

In effluent treatment, it helps improve clarification and reduce turbidity. In sludge treatment, it supports sludge conditioning and improves dewatering performance before filter press, belt press, centrifuge or other dewatering equipment.

BLUWAT PolyDMDAAC is widely used in municipal wastewater, textile wastewater, paper mill wastewater, chemical effluent, mining wastewater, oilfield wastewater and other industrial water treatment systems.

    Key Benefits

    Strong Effluent Clarification

PolyDMDAAC provides strong positive charges that neutralize suspended solids and colloids in wastewater. This improves floc formation and helps achieve clearer treated water after sedimentation, flotation or filtration.

    Better Sludge Dewatering Performance

In sludge dewatering systems, PolyDADMAC helps condition sludge and improve solid-liquid separation. It can support stronger floc structure, better water release and more stable dewatering operation.

    High Charge Density

The high cationic charge density makes PolyDMDAAC effective for destabilizing negatively charged particles. This is important for wastewater containing fine solids, colloids, organic matter or color-causing substances.

    Liquid Form for Easy Dosing

Liquid PolyDADMAC is convenient for plant operation. It can be diluted quickly and dosed by pump, making it suitable for automatic dosing systems and continuous wastewater treatment processes.

Can Be Used Alone or with PAC

PolyDMDAAC can be used as an organic coagulant by itself or as a coagulant aid together with PAC. In many wastewater systems, the combination of PolyDADMAC and PAC can improve floc strength, settling speed and overall treatment stability.

    Effective at Low Dosage

PolyDADMAC is economical and effective at relatively low dosage levels. The best dosage should be confirmed by jar test according to the actual wastewater or sludge condition.

    Wide Application Range

It can be used in effluent treatment, sludge dewatering, color removal, turbidity reduction, paper making, mining, oilfield water treatment and other industrial applications.

    Main Applications

    Industrial Effluent Treatment

Industrial effluent often contains fine suspended solids, colloids, organic impurities and unstable particles. PolyDMDAAC helps neutralize these impurities and improves coagulation efficiency.

It can be used in chemical wastewater, textile wastewater, paper mill wastewater, food processing wastewater, metal processing wastewater and other industrial effluent systems.

    Sludge Dewatering

Sludge dewatering is one of the important applications of PolyDADMAC. It helps improve sludge conditioning before mechanical dewatering equipment.

It can be used before filter press, belt press, screw press, centrifuge and other sludge dewatering systems to support better water release and stronger sludge floc formation.

    Textile Wastewater

Textile wastewater may contain dyes, surfactants, suspended solids and organic matter. PolyDADMAC helps improve clarification and supports color removal when used with decolorizing agent, PAC or PAM.

    Paper Mill Wastewater

In paper mill wastewater treatment, PolyDMDAAC can help remove suspended fibers, fine particles and organic color. It also supports sludge formation and dewatering performance.

    Municipal Wastewater Treatment

In municipal wastewater treatment plants, PolyDADMAC can be used for primary clarification, sludge conditioning and improved solid-liquid separation.

    Mining Wastewater

For coal washing, gold mining, diamond mining and mineral processing wastewater, PolyDADMAC helps clarify process water and remove fine suspended solids.

    Oilfield and Oily Wastewater

In oilfield water treatment and some oily wastewater systems, PolyDADMAC can help destabilize fine particles and improve separation when used in the correct treatment sequence.

    How PolyDMDAAC Works

Most suspended particles and colloids in wastewater carry negative charges. These charges keep particles dispersed and stable in water, making them difficult to remove by natural settling.

PolyDMDAAC provides strong positive charges. After dosing, it neutralizes the negative surface charges of suspended solids and colloids. Once the particles lose stability, they can collide and form larger flocs.

These larger flocs can then be separated by sedimentation, dissolved air flotation, filtration or sludge dewatering equipment.

This mechanism makes PolyDMDAAC useful for both effluent clarification and sludge conditioning.

    Recommended Use Method

For water and wastewater treatment, PolyDADMAC can be used alone or together with Polyaluminium Chloride.

When used alone, it is recommended to dilute the product to 0.5% to 5% concentration based on solid content before dosing.

The actual dosage depends on wastewater composition, suspended solids level, color intensity, sludge concentration, pH value and treatment target. Jar testing is recommended before full-scale use.

The dosing point and mixing speed should be carefully controlled. The chemical should be mixed evenly with wastewater or sludge, but excessive mixing should be avoided after flocs are formed because strong shear may break the flocs.

    Typical Effluent Treatment Process

    1
Test wastewater pH, turbidity, color and suspended solids
    2
Adjust pH if needed according to jar test result
    3
    Add PolyDMDAAC or PolyDADMAC coagulant
    4
Add PAC if stronger coagulation is required
    5
Add PAM flocculant if larger flocs and faster settling are needed
    6
Separate flocs by sedimentation, DAF or filtration
    7
Check final effluent clarity and optimize dosage

    Typical Sludge Dewatering Process

    1
Check sludge concentration and sludge type
    2
Dilute PolyDADMAC to suitable working concentration
    3
Add PolyDADMAC into sludge conditioning tank
    4
Mix evenly to support floc formation
    5
Feed conditioned sludge into filter press, belt press or centrifuge
    6
Observe filtrate clarity, cake moisture and dewatering speed
    7
Adjust dosage according to site performance

    Product Selection Guide

Choose low viscosity grades when easy pumping, fast dilution and lower molecular weight performance are required.

Choose medium viscosity grades for general wastewater clarification and municipal or industrial effluent treatment.

Choose high viscosity grades when stronger floc formation, better sludge conditioning or more difficult wastewater conditions are involved.

For sludge dewatering, jar test or on-site trial is recommended to confirm the most suitable grade and dosage.
